I was born February 1st 1922 on a farm close to Elmira, Ontario. I am a registered nurse and my 4 siblings were all teachers. I am now the only surviving member of my family and I am striving to be here and enjoy life for many years to come. I have five children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Almost all my family lives close by and we see each other regularly for family celebrations an events.

I live alone in an apartment and still take tub baths. My energy level is great and I have no problems with cholesterol , blood pressure or my heart. I attribute my energy levels, mostly, to hemp hearts and chia seeds. Hemp hearts have been a part of my daily diet for over 20 years. Chia seeds, have been added more recently, but I have been very happy with the results, as they aid immensely in elimination.
My husband of nearly 65 years, died two years ago at the age of 96. He was an advocate of health all our married life. Exercise and healthy eating were always his goals. He initiated hemp hearts in our home, on the advice of a friend of our daughters and we bought them by the case from Lethbridge, Alberta. I have recommended them to many people who now use them regularly.
Even though my husband was well into his 90's, he was able to live at home and was only in the hospital 5 days. He died with a respiratory problem which stemmed from a lung biopsy, he had, had a few years previously. Both of us were avid readers and scrabble players. We had a great life together, for which I will always be grateful. We were both farm raised and he was a WW11 veteran. He did smoke, while in the service, but never in our married life. I know he would be proud of the fact that I am trying to keep up to his ideals, and attempting to lead a healthy, and rewarding life in my later years.
I survived colon cancer in 1988, and had an operation for adhesions, about 10 years ago. I do have a minor problem with scar tissue, and have endured a few minor bowel obstructions. Fiber is a little less important at the moment, so I am trying to balance some fiber, with a normal diet.
I read the Toronto Star every morning, and do the crossword puzzle. and the jumble. I am interested in current and world affairs and I also have a keen interest in politics, as my husband Ivan was a Member of Parliament in Ontario in the 1960's. Even though I have not practised nursing for some years, I enjoy listening to other people's medical problems and possibly advising them in some way.
I hope some of what I have said will inspire others in their declining years, as we don't want to be part of the group who spend their last years being infirm and ill and totally dependent on others. I would love to hear from anyone, who is in their nineties and living a similar rewarding life.
